THE COMPANY
My client is a leading multi-national manufacturing company with sites throughout the UK. They are currently recruiting for a PLC controls engineer to supplement their existing team.
Purpose and context of the job:
The role of a PLC controls engineer is to provide breakdown cover and carry out preventative maintenance to Siemens PLC’s and assist on maintenance on production machinery when needed.
This is a multi-skilled craft role but with a heavy bias towards PLC’s. Siemens S7 is mainly used on site, but experience of other systems will be fine.
Duties and responsibilities:
PLC fault finding and programming skills is essential.
* Where a hardware failure has been identified to work with the Automation Control Team on call developer to activate a pre-defined workaround or make temporary modifications to PLC code to allow the operation to continue with the minimal possible impact while a repair is carried out.
* Where a PLC code issues is identified or suspected, to work with the Automation Control Team ‘On Call’ Developer to diagnose and where appropriate deploy the required code fixes
* To provide front line issue investigation of live production PLC systems via on line monitoring of the code to identify and diagnose the cause of faults or failures of the equipment or code

To provide front line investigation of none code related issues via the use of the of relevant diagnostic tools for equipment such as Profibus / Can Bus networks, Bar Code Readers
Assisting with ongoing development to machinery and processes.
Electrical and mechanical fault finding and repair will be required occasionally.
Reporting work done and parts used through a computerised maintenance management system.
