Job purpose

The role of a Technical Assistant is critical to the success of both pre and post contract phases of a project.

The Technical Assistant is the backbone to the company’s preparation and execution of projects and their work is integrally linked to the success of associated roles of the Technical Director, Project Directors, Designers and Operations team.

The Technical Assistant needs to be closely aligned to the strategic approach of the Technical Director and the Project Directors, providing strong counsel and technical competency to allow the Project Directors to make informed decisions and alter their strategy to win projects accordingly.

Preparedness and thoroughness are key traits and will ensure that the guidance provided to clients is second-to-none and detailed.

The Technical Assistant needs to be structured with their time, strong communicators, process driven, able to implement golden rules applied by the business and yet at the same time able to take direction from Technical Directors, Project Directors and Senior Management regarding the strategic approach to winning work.

Through sound research, structure, communication and expertise, the Technical Assistant is best able, to achieve financial objectives of achieving target gross profit performance as set by the company.

Roles & Responsibilities

• In the absence of the Project Director, taking and issuing of meeting minutes after key client meetings. Meeting minutes must be issued within 48hrs of a client meeting. • In the absence of the Project Director, the booking and achievement of regular client meetings at pre-contract stage.

• Issuing agenda in advance of formal client meetings.

• Producing a coherent and structured internal programme for the delivery of a project is essential.

• To assist in ensuring that an analysis is conducted with the designer and Project Director prior to each key client meeting.

• To work with the Technical Director to preserve and enhance the gross profit position of the project at all times.

• To read, in full and to comment accordingly on any design brief or tender received. • To ensure that a full complement of sub- contractors attend site early in a pitch or project process.

• To ensure that landlords and their professional consultants are identified and liaised with early in a project process.

• To assist the Technical Director & Project Director in accurately forecasting turnover and gross profit performance leading up to the weekly sales meeting.

• To liaise internally with SBW furniture, Design and Senior Management and to lead the internal project teams.

• Constantly stay up to date on new market trends and positions.

• Constantly stay up to date on new legislation and ensure that the company and your colleagues are equally aware of changes that affect the delivery of projects.

• Constantly review the performance of sub- contractors and suppliers and provide in-the moment feedback.

• To make the Operations Director aware of projects that have the potential to move through to order.

• Be responsible for the output of spreadsheets and the obtaining of gross profit margins as directed by Senior Management.

• Work with Managing Director on any legal, environmental, or social responsibilities in relation to projects.

• Ensure that drawing issue sheets, finishes schedules and drawings are produced in a timely fashion by liaising closely with the design team.

• Ensure fitout guide has been read and understood / allowed forin the contract proposal.
