Parks Development Officer

We are seeking an officer with relevant ecological and community engagement experience to be responsible for overseeing the conservation of the East Ham Nature Reserve site. Situated within the grounds of St Mary Magdalene Church this 9 acre site has the potential to become a thriving resource for all of the community. The role will oversee the improvements to the site whilst developing and delivering a programme of community events and activities.

To ensure full compliance with policies, standards and procedures relating to Health and Safety, HR, Equality and Diversity, Customer Care etc.

The post holder reports to the Operations Manager

The post holder will be based at the East Ham Nature Reserve. However, the post holder may be asked to work at other parks and green spaces across Newham.
The post holder will oversee the development of the site including conservation improvements, community activities and events.
The post holder will be required to work some evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays in order to meet the service requirements and to ensure appropriate operational service delivery and representation of the council with residents, the Mayor and elected members, and external bodies.To undertake all responsibilities listed below:

To ensure the East Ham Nature Reserve is managed in a sustainable way to enhance
the biodiversity value and provide a quality accessible resource for the community
To Implement and monitor the EHNR management plans
To develop and implement small-scale projects and initiatives within East Ham Nature Reserve
Support the management of the volunteer programme. Ensuring all volunteer activities are safe and regulated by establishing procedures, which will include activity plans, risk assessments and training where appropriate, directing and supervising groups when on site
Be responsible for the management and maintenance of a range of hand tools used for volunteering programmes
To ensure that appropriate reporting procedures and H&S policies are adhered to by all users.
To work closely with facilities management in regards to the maintenance of the EHNR Visitor Centre, including Health & Safety checks
Produce and implement a range of marketing and publicity initiatives, including maintaining notice and information boards, social media liaising with internal communications teams
To work with the relevant teams across the council to effectively promote the site
To work collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders to achieve the
Management plans priorities
To develop relationships with schools, forest schools, youth service providers, across the borough to promote use of the site
To contribute with activities on the service vision of improving resident engagement and participation at EHNR.
To ensure that volunteers, providers and sessional staff are equipped to deliver any sessions by arranging training, skill sharing and development sessions.
To collect and produce a monthly report on KPIs and any the relevant data for reporting service KPIs
Produce a quarterly performance report for senior managers and key stakeholders, providing a range of documentary comment, analysis and interpretation.
