We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Operations and Commercial Director who thrives in a pressurised and creative environment to join our senior leadership team.

You will manage the day-to-day operations of our busy three-auditorium and two-screen venue, including customer experience, technical, maintenance, and IT teams. As a dynamic and experienced operations and technical professional, you will ensure an exemplary customer focus and a fantastic visitor experience.

To succeed in this Operations and Commercial Director role, you will have a strong track record in planning for capital improvements and a commitment to environmental sustainability. Your experience will see you confident in developing strategies that enable growth in all commercial trading aspects of our business.

We will expect you to bring excellent leadership skills, a track record in employee motivation, and display excellent commercial and business acumen. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively, ambitiously, and inclusively.

Job Purpose

To achieve an exceptional standard of delivery at Royal & Derngate and Northampton Filmhouse, and ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of the buildings
To lead and motivate team members across technical, ICT and maintenance teams
To lead and motivate a customer experience team who take pride in ensuring that profit and customer service expectations are exceeded
To champion accessibility and sustainability activities for the organisation, leading on all strategies linked to the latter

Principal Responsibilities of the Operations and Commercial Director:

Senior Management

To attend senior management team meetings and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation
To provide leadership and direction on all operational and customer-facing matters for the continued growth and success of the organisationFinancial Management

To maximise the efficiency and viability of the customer experience, technical, ICT and maintenance departments
To monitor the quality and cost-effectiveness of services provided by the customer experience, technical, ICT and maintenance departments to ensure high standards and value for moneyOperational Management

Work with Head of Customer Experience to ensure that the standard of our customer experience is exceptional and inclusive at all times
Work with the ICT Manager to ensure effective and efficient IT systems are in place and meet existing and future business needsHealth and Safety

To develop effective Health and Safety strategies, safety actions plans, and building and fire risk assessments schedules, in partnership with the nominated Health and Safety consultant
Lead on and implement the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the building and all operations and ensure all areas of the theatre and its facilities are in a safe and presentable conditionEnvironmental Sustainability

To be a champion for environmental sustainability across the organisation, by encouraging all departments to participate in environmental sustainability initiatives and working groups
To lead and nurture the organisation's Environment Sustainability Working GroupTeam Management

To provide line management and leadership to the Head of Customer Experience, Maintenance Technician, ICT Manager and Technical Manager by establishing excellent ongoing working relationships with colleagues via recruitment, training and communication
To liaise with the Human Resources Director to ensure team levels are maintained, recruiting team members as necessaryDelivery

To establish and deliver a rolling programme of capital replacement and repair

Essential Skills

Experience

Proven operational management experience within a large venue/organisation
Track record in commercial income generation
Significant experience of management of teams
Planning, managing and controlling multiple budgets
Managing projects intended to reduce environmental impact
Management of a range of key services, including building/facilities management, bars, cleaning and ICT
Proven commitment to creating a collaborative working environment
Procurement and contract negotiation
Delivery of capital projects
High level experience of Health and Safety Management and practical application in a public buildingKnowledge in the following areas:

Proven ability to solve complex problems
In-depth knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety legislation and its practical application
Environmental sustainability programmes and schemes
Working Time Regulations
Relevant union agreements
Understanding of current best practice in the areas of diversity, access and equal opportunitiesSkills/Abilities

Excellent and extensive people management skills
Excellent and effective business and administrative skills
Outstanding organisational skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to write reports, strategic documents and policies and procedures
Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Desirable Skills

Experience

Experience in technical delivery of theatre productions
Delivery of IT projects
Operations management of a Grade II listed building
Liaising with local authority landlord
Supporting fundraising activity, including co-writing applications and cultivating supportersKnowledge in the following areas:

Stage, electrics, design and equipment
Mechanical and electrical plant
IT equipment and systems
Cyber security and data protection
Digital cinema and broadcast equipment
