Primary Objectives/Key Tasks
You will have a comprehensive understanding client procedures along with comprehensive
knowledge of the principles of building design, construction and associated services. You are
required to evaluate, interpret, produce, develop and revise architectural designs into working
solutions that will satisfy performance, production, regulatory and procurement criteria.
Responsibilities are varied across the stages of design and construction projects. Duties will
be generally those defined within the following job; however, we are a modern office and,
therefore, need to adopt flexible working patterns. All job descriptions should be treated as a
guide only.
The responsibilities of a Architect within the Architecture Business Unit are summarised, but
not limited to, the following:
General Duties
Operate on a flexible basis in a team environment to fulfil the team's obligations
Fulfil the general requirements: filing, office procedures, layering conventions (CAD) etcin accordance with Practice Policy and Procedures
Recognise the significance of the design stage and how it underpins the constructionproject
Evaluate and clarify the client's brief and evaluate design compliance with brief at regularintervals
Evaluate and advise on environmental, regulatory and legal requirements and obtain initialapprovals
Produce and evaluate feasibility studies
Assess and manage survey requirements and produce surveys
Prepare and present design proposals
Develop the project design, research problems and produce, develop and advise oninnovative solutions
Liaise with, and produce documentation for, statutory approval authorities
Carry out design stage risk assessments
Ensure continual compliance with design, legal, statutory and professional requirements
Produce detailed drawings to a timescale
Consult with other professionals for particular specialists to contribute to the project
Advise client of design merits and progress
Solve technical problems, issue progress reports to project leader, ensure the specifiedmaterials are being used and carry out regular site inspections
Chair and accurately minute, formal client and site meetings
Conduct site visits to inspect quality of work and record progress and defective works
Keep abreast of developments in the profession, construction industry etc, and fulfil therequirements of CPD
Software skills
The Company operate in a Mac based environment primarily with Vectorworks – Autiocad isavailable and Revit is being introduced
Candidates must have a high degree of competence in this software as well as goodcapability on Microsoft (for Mac) packages – typically Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc
Commercial
Have a basic awareness of economic working

Ensure email is promptly actioned
Ensure formal letters have a reply within seven days (approved by the Team Leader)
Ensure minutes and reports are tabled in good time for the Team Leader to issueInternal Communications
Ensure the Team Leader is kept informed of all project issuesMarketing
Always promote the business in a positive and constructive light
Assist with planning a sustainable level of resourceMeasurement of Success
Take ownership of client account management role with regular client interface on alldeliverables.
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures for drawing standardisation.
Assist in improving internal and external Design processes for a more integrated business* Increase awareness among our clients and staff of Design capability
