Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary : £30000 – £35000/annum + benefits
Mech Tech Professionals is actively recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for our niche manufacturer in Newport.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for planning and implementing activities in order to meet the company’s targets for product fulfilment ensuring they comply with customer specifications. Initiate and develop achievable, cost effective and reliable mechanical designs from concept through to production.
Main responsibilities of the role will include
* Mechanical product design of bespoke parts.
* Product awareness
* BOM and mechanical drawing generation, ensuring compliance with specifications
* Support current engineering projects
* Design FMEA
* Part standardisation
* Support Value Analysis/ Value Engineering activities
* Engineering change control
To be considered for this position, candidates must have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
* Qualified to Degree, HND/HNC or equivalent, preferably with an understanding of 3D CAD (SolidWorks)
* Experience of working in a manufacturing/engineering discipline, preferably within a ‘bespoke’ mechanical engineering environment
* Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE)
* Mechanical measurement techniques
* Enterprise resource planning (ERP)
* Data manipulation
* Problem solving tools
* Analysis
* IT skills
* Material properties – base metals
* CNC Machining techniques / workshop practices
* Understanding of casting process from initial pattern design through to finishing
* Knowledge of fasteners and their application
* Knowledge of torque, together with its application and measurement
* Ability to confirm parts against drawing by measurement
* Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings
* Obtain knowledge of engineering materials and their properties
* Implement continuous improvement of methodology
* Resolve technical problems, generate and implement countermeasures
* Develop creative working practices
* Ensure customer satisfaction
* New product introduction
