Unique opportunity here for an accomplished Senior level Layout Designer to join an SME Architectural practice in Wakefield who specialise in the layout, design and technical delivery of new build housing typologies for PLC house builders and regional developers across Yorkshire and nationally.

The Senior Layout Designer will be joining an ambitious recently established practice which is now entering its fifth year of trading. Owing to sustained growth and a robust pipeline of work they have earmarked a strategic senior level appointment which will propel the business forwards as it continues to execute an ambitious growth plan. Working alongside the Managing Director we are looking for someone who can take the lead on all design / layout aspects of the practice which allow the MD to focus more on the business side.

The majority of the projects range from 40 units right through to 700 units which is one of the schemes in the planning pipeline, the majority of these are on behalf of PLC House builders and regional contractors although they occasionally work on one off builds or bespoke single digit development plots.

What they require is an experienced Senior Layout Designer with a proven track record of working in the Residential development sector to include new build volume housing. Ideally you will be from a residential developer / Architectural Practice background who has successfully led Residential developments from early planning, design and layout stages. Experience wise we are looking for someone with a minimum of 7-10 years as a minimum.

This opportunity has no glass ceiling for progression, there is the scope for full autonomy of all design matters and a chance to be hands on in the wider intricacies of running a business, potential future share options could be on offer for the right candidate.

Here are some of the additional duties of the Senior Layout Designer

Production of sketch and CAD layouts for prospective sites efficiently and accurately so the client can assess the viability.

Preparing residential planning layouts with accompanying design statements for submission to the local planning department.

Technical responsibilities to include being proficient user of AutoCAD with a working knowledge of Photoshop & SketchUP.

Fully understanding how the design and layout can be improved efficiently thus maximising on unit size and density, sales and turnover for the client.

Supporting and co-ordinating the planning application packs with planning colleagues including, but not limited to:- plans, elevations, design and access statements working cohesively to maintain a high standard of work and successful planning consents

On occasion attending and promoting the plans at meetings with Planning Authorities and be able to sell your architectural vision effectively to gain confidence and agreement for the project.

The ability to produce hand drawn sketches for feasibility studies.

Provide support and assistance to the wider technical team to include some mentorship responsibilities for junior members of staff.

Salary depending on experience / suitability – £50,000 – £60,000 depending on suitability + benefits which includes a Christmas bonus. Additionally, our client offers flexible working hours and the opportunity to work remotely. The office location is Wakefield.
