Product Developer
Job Type : Permanent, Full Time
Salary : £22000 – £25000/annum
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Product Developer/Technologist who has a keen interest in specialist and performance led clothing.
You will be involved in all technical aspects of the development process with a main focus on Body Armour as well as technical performance apparel – mainly tactical clothing aimed at military and special forces. You will proactively develop current samples and tender specific requirements from initial design to final production aiming to achieve a high quality, considered product.
Product Developer – The Job Description
* Developing world-class, fit for purpose Body Armour and Performance Apparel from prototype to production.
* Manage the development process and the critical paths proactively keeping in line with company priorities. Ensuring transparency for all departments.
* Responsible for the day-to-day design and development operational tasks, to deliver the goals and objectives in line with the company vision.
* Liaising with our manufacturers and suppliers across the globe on a daily basis developing good relationships managing the development, cost negotiations, lead times, MOQs etc
* Sourcing relevant fabrics and trims keeping an eye out for innovative solutions.
* Keeping up to date with the latest developments for Body Armour and ensuring our products always stay current or ahead of the market.
* Producing full and clear workbooks for manufacturers including creating CADs, measurement charts and BOM’s with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Submit development specifications to factories and provide technical support ie. garment construction to manufacturers, investigating and rectifying any issues.
* Ensuring all samples received from the manufacturers are in time and as expected. Reviewing and documenting findings then proactively working on the developments from this.
* Finalise and approve all samples prior to bulk order placement.
* Ensuring product quality and aesthetics is right for the market and brand.
* Produce and share useable information for all departments relating to products
Product Developer – The Person Specification
* Previous experience within a similar product developer/technical position. An interest in technical performance/outdoor apparel clothing would be advantageous.
* Excellent understanding of garment construction and functionality.
* Understanding of the pattern cutting process.
* Sound knowledge of the Product Development Process with the ability to plan ahead.
* Have an understanding of technical specifications for materials and trims.
* Excellent organisation with the ability to prioritise workload under pressure and in a team environment.
* Ability to work independently and use your own initiative to proactively problem solve.
* Confident communication skills, verbal and written.
* Have a thorough mindset with attention to detail.
* Be able to effectively problem solve with efficiency.
* Adobe Creative Suite competence is a must.
* Skills in Google Docs, Gmail and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Ability to maintain good working relationships with suppliers and manufacturers
