Our client is a hugely successful designer and manufacturer of beautiful furniture which is exported globally. Our client prides themselves on excellent customer service as well as innovative designs but in addition to this they are passionate about investing in their team.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Design and based at the production factory, the R&D Upholstery Developer will work closely with the Engineering and Product Management teams to introduce all new upholstery-based developments into production.
The R&D Upholstery Developer will be responsible for overseeing and supporting upholstery product development, working closely with the design & engineering team to guide projects from concept through to production. The R&D Upholstery Developer will also use their skills and knowledge of products and materials to make improvements to existing designs & products relating to construction, fit, function & end-use requirements to enhance performance and cut down on manufacturing costs.
Responsibilities/Key Deliverables of the R&D Upholstery Developer
* Developing and managing the launch of new upholstery products
* Working closely with external and internal designers to realise concepts into production ready product
* Providing training and support on new developments into the production teams
* Ensuring key project milestones and dates for upholstery product development are achieved
* Providing upholstery expertise and support to quality team
* Working with localisation teams for effective handover and supporting of new developments to third party suppliers
* Full ownership of templates, digitisation and associated modification and deviation processes
* Championing continuous improvements in the production factory, providing support to CI engineer and team leads
* Developing the upholstery knowledge and competencies within the design department
* Liaising with the Factory Manager to address issues that may need support in other departments
Core Competencies of the R&D Upholstery Developer
* 5+ years of upholstery development experience essential
* Knowledge of furniture construction, development & production
* Experience of MS Office essential, CAD/CAM preferred
* Exceptional pattern making skills
* Strong communication skills: listening, verbal, writing, and visual communication
* Influential in building positive partnerships with cross functional teams
* Ability to work well with others as well as independently under strict deadlines
* Ability to appropriately prioritise projects
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
