CMD Ltd are a niche design and manufacturing business that supply a range of premium products and ergonomic solutions for office space and commercial / leisure buildings.
Established in 1984 the business offers a portfolio of products, directed to electrical contractors and furniture designers for the office refurbishing and fit-out market mainly in the UK, with the opportunity to expand in APAC and Continental Europe.
This Head of Design and Product Management role will report into the Managing Director and will play a pivotal role within the senior leadership team, based out of Rotherham. With an impressive new show room in London there will be an element of travel required including attendance of events and exhibitions.
You will run the design and product development function for the company duties & responsibilities will include:
* Manage, support, mentor and develop an existing team of new product solution designers to ensure designs are developed in time and budget to meet commercial and technical requirements.
* Oversee and assist with the design of new products, working to produce items as set out by the new product development process. Ensuring that the product design timescales are met with target dates being critical.
* Empower the innovation, sourcing and deliverability of products and product designs unique to the business and industry, in collaboration with the design team and the innovation capability of CMD.
* Work closely with your Product Development Manager, be part of research process, understanding safety/electrical certification of products going through the new product process.
* Meet with clients, specifiers, and end users to establish product design briefs, including the concept, performance, and production criteria.
* Arranging meetings and liaising with engineers and other departments, including marketing, to discuss and negotiate appropriate production processes, costs, and commercial issues.
* Making presentations to colleagues, or clients of proposals on new products.
The Head of Design and Product Management will have the following skills and experience:
* A passionate and motivational leader, with a proven track record in Product Management, New Product Development and New Product Introduction.
* A strong bias towards aesthetics and ergonomics is highly desirable as well as an interest in furniture or interior design.
* Educated to Degree level in Arts Design, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Technology or equivalent.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a product design environment.
* Commercially astute, able to lead from the front; set out strategy and execute objectives of the business and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
* Knowledgeable of Profit and loss, cash flow and product margins.
