Design Engineer Manager

Job Type : Permanent, Full Time

Salary : £42000 – £45000/annum

Our client is looking to recruit a Lead Design Engineer to manage and run a competent, existing team on a permanent basis.

Job Summary:

As an integral part of a small team of design engineers, your role will be to lead the team designing and detailing a range of tipper trailers and bodies and for ensuring the timely provision of accurate and detailed drawing packs to production. The product range is highly customised and often requires innovative, weight saving new solutions.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities / Authorities:

Leading the design office team to ensure an organised way of working for the achievement of multiple, concurrent objectives

Production of all drawings and designs supporting the production of new trailers and bodies including schematics for the pneumatic and hydraulic systems where necessary

FEA analysis of chassis frames and components and specification of suitable materials

Liaison with suppliers, customers and quality to ensure products used are fit for purpose and meet required legislation

Liaison with the workshop to support production and repair processes

Providing full drawing packs to the cutting shop and workshops including design intent with appropriate dimensioning for tooling set up

Production of air brake calculations to facilitate the programming of braking systems

Producing technical documentation to facilitate legal compliance of completed products

Production of Bills of Materials

Interfacing effectively with the Engineering team to ensure adoption of common designs and best practices across both brands

Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by the manager.

Key Skills / Competencies:

Skilled and effective in the use of Solidworks Premium package

Able to demonstrate competency in using FEA for fabricated beams and frames
