Who you are
We’re looking for a Designer, not just someone who designs. You’ll have a sharp eye for the elegant, the smart, and the disruptive, and you’ll understand the profound effect that strong design can have when applied to seemingly intractable problems. As a midweight, you’ll be well on your way to mastering your craft, still hungry to learn, but not afraid of challenges that may arise. What you’ll be doing
You will join a close-knit team of fourteen Designers and Digital Designers within our 50-strong Creative department. This is a team with exacting standards and high ambition, where every job is seen as an opportunity to excel. Working with Art Directors and other Designers, you will be responsible for transforming initial concepts into outstanding through-the-line communication. Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Surprise and delight with exceptionally well-crafted design solutions for a broad range of assets
Take ownership of projects across their lifecycle
Establish strong rationales for your design decisions
Confidently communicate to both agency and client partners
Work in partnernship with other agency disciplines, including but not limited to Art Directors, Artworkers, Digital Designers, Copywriters, Strategists and Client Services
Keep up-to-date with design thinking and trends
Drive agency design standards using your own work as an example
Question and seek clarity on all project requirements and goals
Support and learn from more senior members of the team
Support and share knowledge with more junior members of the team
Act as brand guardian on your own accounts, and flag/correct issues you spot on other accounts
Manage your time effectively and without intervention to meet project deadlines
Understand that agencies have peaks and troughs, and that extra hours are ocassionally required during a project’s delivery phase, and that quieter times are opportunities for you to explore and develop your craft
Understand and work to all internal workflow and process requirements
What you need to know
We’ll be looking for a varied portfolio of work that demonstrates great attention to detail and well-developed craft skills. Strong typography is a given, as is a fascination in communication in general, and advertising in particular.
A degree or further education qualification in art, graphic design or visual communication is expected but is not essential, as the right candidate will be able to sell themselves on their portfolio alone.
We are looking for a candidate that is able to go beyond the brief and bring a sense of urgency and ownership to every project they work on.
Specific skills should include:
* 4+ years of design experience at creative agencies
* Strong Adobe Suite skills, primarily InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
* Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Office including Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc
* Solid understanding of design principles and printed media production
