Product Design Engineers-Hybrid

An exciting opportunity has become available as a Product Design Engineer to work alongside the Technical Team. The main purpose of Job is to invent, design and develop market leading products for the UK wholesale market.

Based in the Midlands at our purpose built 100,000sq ft. Head Office and Distribution Centre, we design, develop, manufacture and distribute our ever-expanding product range throughout the UK.

Key Duties:

Apply innovative problem solving skills to support the vision specification for new product concepts.
Participate in brainstorms and gather research to support new product concepts.
Champion great design to produce products that meet all performance and functional criteria.
Work with research teams to integrate and develop new technology research into the final design.
Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.
Use established development processes, good engineering practice and discipline to deliver robust design solutions in agreed timeframe.
Maintain all supporting documentation to ensure accurate hand over either to other teams within the UK or Far East.
Communicate between all teams within Technical department to ensure effective and timely input.
Prepare for (and participate in when required) design reviews with Product Development Managers and/or Technical Manager.
Design reviews with company directors, as required.

Person Specification:

Engineering/Design Degree or equivalent HNC/HND
Product/Mechanical Design experience.
Sound understanding and knowledge of basic engineering principles.
Knowledge and understanding of various manufacturing processes.
Understanding of tool design specifically injection/compression moulding and metal presswork.
A creative and considered approach to problem solving, adhering to clear design processes.
An understanding of practical and methodical design development through prototyping and testing.
Proven ability to communicate through concept artwork and 3D Cad (Solidworks is preferable but training will be offered).
Experience in detailing component design for production and assembly.
Technical and personal credibility to work effectively with other teams within the business.
Ability to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others.
Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
Self-starter – ability to work independently.
Ability to travel to Far East for project transfer/production requirement desirable.
Some electrical knowledge is preferred but training will be offered.
Any hands-on machining/model making skills would be an advantage.
