About the Role
We are looking for Solar Design Engineer to help the company deliver utility scale solar PV and battery storage projects in the UK. You'll take a lead role on the effective design of large-scale ground mount solar projects and work closely with the team in engineering and colleagues in project development, project management and project construction.
* System Design: Develop detailed designs for solar PV systems based on project specifications, customer requirements, and site assessments. This involves determining the appropriate size, type, and layout of solar panels, inverters, and other components.
* Site Assessment: Conduct on-site visits to assess the feasibility of solar installations. Evaluate factors such as sun exposure, shading, roof condition, and structural integrity to optimize system performance.
* Energy Production Analysis: Use software and tools to estimate the energy production potential of the solar PV system. Consider factors like geographic location, weather patterns, and system efficiency to predict energy output.
* Component Selection: Choose appropriate solar panels, inverters, racking systems, and other components based on project requirements, budget constraints, and local regulations.
* Compliance and Codes: Ensure that the solar PV system design complies with local building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards. Prepare and submit necessary permits and documentation for approval.
* Cost Estimation: Develop cost estimates and budgets for solar PV projects. This includes calculating equipment costs, labor costs, and any other expenses associated with the installation.
* Project Planning: Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to create project timelines and schedules. Coordinate with installation teams to ensure seamless execution of the design.
* Technical Drawings: Generate detailed technical drawings and schematics of the solar PV system, including electrical layouts, wiring diagrams, and structural designs.
* Performance Monitoring: Implement monitoring systems to track the performance of installed solar PV systems. Identify and address issues that may affect energy production.
* Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and changes in regulations related to solar PV systems. Attend training sessions and conferences as needed to enhance skills and knowledge.
* Customer Communication: Collaborate with customers to explain the design and installation process, address their questions or concerns, and provide guidance on system operation and maintenance.
* Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all project-related documents, including designs, permits, inspection reports, and warranties.
About You
* A bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, or a related field is typically required.
* Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and PV system design tools.
* Knowledge of electrical systems, energy conversion, and solar technology.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Familiarity with local building codes and regulations related to solar installations.
* Effective communication skills for interacting with customers, team members, and regulatory authorities
