In performing this role, the candidate will be required to engage and foster links with wider Industry and academia, looking for opportunities and ways the core Leonardo business can adopt and exploit both technology and business innovation for the future. With careful selection of collaborative partners, the objective is to provide a service that will accelerate conceptual design phase, and with industry & academia assistance provide Leonardo UK accelerators into our core product & service portfolios.

This is appointment, is looking to recruit a candidate with a successful background in the management and leadership of technology scouting, research and application; ideally coupled with extensive experience in technology delivery.

Key Responsibility Areas

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience of technology research, scouting and proposed implementation, considering and proposing strategic investments that will differentiate Leonardo UK Ltd from its competitors.

Experience and research management, working in low TRL designs
Demonstrable skills in developing strategic technologies into a business
Experience of leading a wider team, good stakeholder engagement skills, both internally and externally.
A proven track record in developing and motivating technology adoption
Previous experience of working to Executive level – including reporting / presentations etc
Experience of working in collaboration with external partners and suppliers.The successful candidate will work closely within multidisciplinary integrated project teams to provide technical leadership and expertise in the design and development of solutions to unique and challenging problems to support our Electronics, Helicopters and Cyber business, as well as looking at adjacent markets.

You must be self-motivated, able to take the initiative in customer discussions, be an effective team player who will lead a team, facilitate team members, and have efficient time management skills enabling you to work well either as part of a team or on your own.

Skills, Qualification & Knowledge Required

You will be responsible for managing and developing processes that assess the maturity of technologies, maintaining the pace of development and ensuring that all parties are activity involved in ideas pursued; while still providing an objective position on the feasibility and exploitation path(s).

You will be responsible for the technical assessment of new technology and its compatibility with overall task objectives. Investigating conceptual & design options and where necessary and appropriate, making detailed proposals for preferred design solutions which are compatible with project design, timescales and cost objectives.

In the role you will be challenged to break free from traditional constraints of the business, its processes and methods, with the goal of improving the efficiency and competitive position.

The role will require:

Working with the Leonardo UK Ltd Divisions, providing guidance and assistance on the use of technology mapping, its techniques, and principles
Technology scouting and maintaining a map of current and emerging technologies.
The application of technology mapping into the business.
Identifying technologies that "add value" to the company offering and strategic direction on investments required.You should be comfortable presenting your results and designs either through written reports or oral presentations
