You will actively support and contribute to the design team's working project portfolio, within a busy design and build company, which specialises in office and laboratory design and fit-out. The main role will be to support the lead designer on each project to produce a full set of technical drawings that can be issued to contractors for construction. From mechanical and electrical layouts to detailed joinery packages.

This great company are office fit out and refurb specialists who create well designed office spaces to motivate staff and improve the business performance.You will be responsible to and working closely with the lead designer to ensure compliance with health and safety, producing detailed design risk assessments as well as compliance with building regulations.

Description

* To continually update and maintain designs and working drawings throughout project lifecycles and on to project completion drawings/ "As Built"
* Take responsibility for the management of drawing packages and the drawing issue register
* To understand project objectives and client brief, liaising and working closely with the lead designer, Project Managers and Directors for instruction and guidance
* Set and maintain high standards of quality, accuracy and speed of delivery on all project designs and drawings
* To actively respond to clients in a timely manner and ensure expectations are met where appropriate
* Identify opportunities to improve designs
* Be conversant with all current legislation, especially in relation to health and safety, CDM and Building Regulations and ensure compliance on all projects
* To take responsibility for technical design, visiting sites, carrying out accurate site surveys and working with project managers to see the project through from a design perspective
* Be able to work in line with the responsibilities of the acting role of a principal designer and principal contractor
* Whilst the role is primarily for technical site drawings, a level of knowledge in commercial office space planning regulations would be required and flexibility for other tasks such as drawing buildings from site surveys
* Produce accurate designers risk assessments
* Maximise sales opportunities throughout projects
* This role is to be office and site based

Profile

Role Requirements:
Use of the following software packages:
* AutoCAD; experience in working with it either during university or in employment
* Revit; same as above. Plus 3D modelling, scheduling
* Ideally someone who can already use both of these programmes, but at least one of them proficiently
* Photoshop; at least some basic use of this would be a plus
* Office; the usual Word, Excel, Powerpoint
* Adobe Creative suite- Optional but preferred
Experience of the following:
* Construction knowledge; how things are built / put together
* Experience in producing construction quality working drawing packages and tender packages.
* Building regulations; sound knowledge of
* CDM; At least a basic knowledge of, including the roles and responsibilities of a principal designer and principal contractor
* The ability to at least be able to effectively use these documents as reference guides, while knowing the basics of things like fire regs and DDA compliance
* Freehand sketching
* Site surveying / taking accurate measurements
* Ideally previous experience in the office fit-out or Laboratory sector, and any experience in design within larger companies will be useful
