We have an exciting opportunity to join our Community Action team as a Community Artist. You’ll oversee our Art for All and Schools Project programmes as well as create opportunities for people to explore society’s need to live with dying. You’ll be a key player in our response and support to this, helping people contemplate and share experiences and thoughts about life and death, to raise awareness and to create conversations, as well as provoke change.
To succeed in this role:
* You’ll be friendly, warm and approachable, and able to work with a variety of people
* You’ll be thoughtful, reflective and committed to helping people share their stories and thoughts through different mediums
* You’ll be bold and inventive: we use art to tackle and explore inequality and social justice
* You’ll have good communication skills and be a natural collaborator
* You’ll be able to demonstrate good organisational skills and level of reliability
* You will also be committed to changing the way we work together.
Based in the Community Action team at St Christopher’s Hospice, your role will be multi-sited. You’ll be responsible for organising opportunities for the arts and standalone art projects, at times working with community members and volunteers, responding to opportunities colleagues generate with suggestions or opportunities, as well as collaborating across five boroughs with other art organisations and to create partnership opportunities. There is a real focus on team-based working and support for, as well as leadership of, the different initiatives we run or support on.
About us
We are a world-leading hospice aspiring to a world in which all dying people and those close to them have access to care and support, whenever and wherever they need it. St Christopher’s Hospice was founded in 1967 by Dame Cicely Saunders and formed part of the modern hospice movement. Proudly celebrating over 50 years and with a turnover of over £20 million, we provide invaluable care and support to over 7,500 people across the five London Boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.
Our Community Action team is a lively and thoughtful team working with community members and groups across five boroughs to find new ways of responding to societal need, creating change and doing so in partnership. We use creative methods to bring about mutualistic responses to death, dying and loss, and address inequities, and hold a social change agenda.
St Christopher’s is an equal opportunities employer, and we welcome applications from everyone regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, faith and religion, disability and age, although we are underrepresented across the organisation with BAME and LGBTQ+ employees, and thus we encourage applications from these groups. We also welcome hearing from you if you have peer or lived experience, as this is an important feature of our team.
Benefits of joining St Christopher’s
* You will gain a stimulating and rewarding role with an opportunity to influence and make a real difference in the community
* Access to excellent training and development opportunities
* A number of health and wellbeing schemes
* A competitive contributory pension scheme and life assurance scheme with generous beneficiary plan
In the event we receive a high amount of applications, we reserve the right to close the job earlier than the initial closing date
Closing Date: 21st February 2022
Interview Date: Provisional date of 2nd March 2022
