A rare and unique opportunity here for an Associate Architect to join an AJ100 Architectural practice, to be based within their Birmingham, West Midlands office.

THE COMPANY:

The practice are an AJ100 company that were founded over 50 years ago. A recognisable name within the Midlands Architecture circuit, and a well known practice UK wide and internationally. Made up of over 100 employees across 8 offices in the UK and internationally, the company boasts a wealth of experience across Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design.

The company work across a broad range of sectors and project types, and have delivered innovative and widely known projects in areas such as; Healthcare, Education, Residential, Commercial and more. The Birmingham office have historically worked predominantly in the Education sector, focusing on Higher Education in particular. However, over the years there has been more of a balance of work, with a fairly even split between Education, Healthcare and Commercial focused work.

Based near the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham city centre, the office is ideally located for those living in and around the Birmingham area. The practice are based within walking distance of Birmingham New Street and the Jewellery Quarter train stations, ideal for rail commuters.

The practice encourage a positive work-life balance, and have implemented several measures to make sure their staff can achieve this. The practice offers the option of a 9 day working fortnight, meaning every 2nd weekend is a long weekend (further details in the benefits section below), and also provide an optional working from home/in office split.

THE POSITION – ASSOCIATE ARCHITECT

The position available is for an Associate Architect to join the practice in a senior level position. The position would see you being a pivotal Architect in the business, in a role where team leadership, project coordination, project running, development of junior staff and more would be in a typical day. The role could suit an Associate Architect or a Senior Architect looking to take the next step in their career. The ideal Architect will have at least 4-5 years of post qualification experience, and have worked in a senior capacity for at least 2-3 years.

As mentioned previously, the practice work in a broad range of sectors with a particular focus on Education, Healthcare and Commercial work. However, with this position being more management and project running focused, your previous sector experience doesn't come into play too much when applying to this position. Similarly, the practice utilise AutoCAD and Revit, but given the nature of the Associate Architect job, software shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The Associate Architect will be working in a position where you will be expected to be able to work on and run 3-4 jobs at a time. Organisational skills and attention to detail must therefore be at a high level.

There is a clear structure within the business and opportunities for progression. The natural progression for the Associate Architect taking up this role will be to move up to Associate Director next, then Director, Studio Director and/or Sector Director. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Qualified Architect with UK recognised qualifications.
ARB registered and RIBA chartered Architect.
At least 5 years of post qualification experience, with at least 2-3 years of working at a senior level.
Ideally already operating at Associate level.
A strong team leader, with the ability to develop and mentor more junior level Architects and Assistants.
Comfortable in a client facing position.
Excellent time management and organisational skills, which will enable you to work on 3-4 projects at any given time.
