About us:
Wild Planet Trust is a registered education, scientific and conservation charity established in 1957 and based in Devon, UK. We own two zoos in south west England, plus two local nature reserves and a National Nature Reserve. We support conservation in the United Kingdom and overseas using funds generated by the people who visit the zoos and the expertise and dedication of our staff.
Paignton Zoo first opened its doors as the Torbay Zoological Gardens in 1923. Almost 100 years later, our site, and work, has grown considerably and we are now one of the South West’s largest conservation organisations and top visitor attractions. There are over 230 species of animal that call Paignton Zoo home. As well as being a zoo, we’re also a botanical garden with over 4,000 species on record.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Creative Operative to join our Creative Studio team on a Permanent contract. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours over 5 days. The salary for this position is £20,572.50 per annum.

What will this role involve?
We are looking for a creative team player, with an eye for detail, to help us transform our zoos into innovative, inspiring, and artistic destinations. The role will be based at Paignton Zoo but may require occasional travel to Newquay Zoo and our UK reserve sites to co-ordinate plans and projects. As part of the Creative Studio Team, you will work to create and construct the necessary infrastructure to deliver visitor facing interpretation, signage, and other creative outputs, focusing on transforming our site and promoting the work of the Wild Planet Trust in new and innovative ways.
What skills and experience are required?
You will be creative with excellent project and time management skills, great attention to detail, and able to turn your skills to a wide range of tasks and challenges. The role will be hands on and varied, requiring a working knowledge of different techniques and an emphasis on reclaimed, refurbished, and recycled materials. An understanding of contemporary design and an awareness of the conservation roles of the modern zoo would be an advantage. A full clean driving license is essential.
