Salary: £10.42 per hour

The Willows in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, are looking to recruit an Assistant Cook to join their team on a Bank Contract. On a bank contract, you will work as and when required by the service and accrue annual leave as you work.

The ideal candidate will have an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in catering and experience of working within a kitchen environment, preparing fresh food to cover 2 main meal times. The person must have a knowledge of nutrition and have good communication skills, being able to work within a team and on own initiative. Experience of working within a care environment is desired but not essential.

As an Assistant Cook, you will be required to organise and control the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.

Prepare, cook and serve meals, hot and cold, as appropriate. Responsible for maintaining and managing the food budget.
Provide special diets where necessary as well as taking into account the preferences of individual Clients.
Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
Order stocks and check deliveries, as well as check and value stocks as required by the Hospital Manager.
Be responsible for the washing up after meals and the overall cleaning of the kitchen and where appropriate the dining area.
Liaise with the Hospital Manager when planning/costing menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of fresh foods, as available.This is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties following appropriate discussion with their line manager.
