Breed Liaison Officer

Full time permanent role.

Location – Flexible, Hybrid Working, occasional work from head office in Stoneleigh with a requirement to travel throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Hours – Working Hours – 37.5 hours per week worked flexibly based on business need Monday – Sunday with a requirement for evening work.

Remuneration – Competitive Package commensurate with experience.

About the Role:
The society are seeking an outgoing and enthusiastic individual to be the “face of the society”. The primary roles will be membership and customer engagement and promotion of the breed.

This pivotal role requires the applicant to be flexible in their working attitude as some evening and weekend work will be required for attendance at Shows/Sales/Events.

The role will involve the following:

Key Duties

* Be the first point of contact for members. (Day to day registration/DNA queries etc will be dealt with directly by the office team)

* To engage with existing and potential commercial users of Charolais Bulls to aid the development of commercial customers for the membership.

* Engage and encourage new and potential members.

* In conjunction with the office team continue the development of effective breed promotion, marketing and social media.

* In conjunction with the office team, identify trends at industry level to ensure that breed development objectives are in line with market needs.

Responsibilities:

* Represent the Society at shows and sales of Charolais cattle and organise promotional stands at various shows and industry events such as beef exhibitions. This would include (with the assistance of the office team) the booking of stands, organisation, and production of marketing material/posters/flyers/pop ups etc.

* Liaise and assist with the office team to ensure timely show & sale reports.

* In conjunction with the council of management and the office team, take reasonable steps to ensure that members observe the societies’ articles and bylaws and that the herdbook is always maintained to the highest standard of accuracy and integrity.

* Create and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, members, commercial producers providing timely responses to emails calls voicemails and messages.

* Have a thorough understanding of the BCCS processes (training will be provided where necessary) to be able to respond to day-to-day enquiries of the membership directly or with the support of the office team.

* Work with auctioneers/members/commercial bull buyers when required in settling disputes (or escalate to the Council of management if necessary) and answering queries which concern the breeding, performance, or sale of Charolais cattle.

* Encourage the next generation of Charolais breeders through joint leadership of the Charolais youth programme along with the National Youth Coordinator.

* Engage with and assist the regional clubs in their activities and establish national events for members such as open/development days if it becomes appropriate.

* Establish and maintain good relationships with key industry figures and organisations including levy bodies and lobbying organisations to ensure that society members views are represented.

* Get proactively involved with studies and/or set up trials in conjunction with members and other industry bodies.

* In conjunction with the Council of Management and office team to take reasonable measures to increase the level of sponsorship for British Charolais typically, Show classes, youth events, newsletters and article publication.

* Attend and contribute at meetings of the council of management and sub committees as required and action points arising from the minutes if required.

* Support the office team and PR consultants as required to prepare and prioritise content for member communication, including e-bulletins and social media comms.

* Be the main point of contact for show societies and assist in the checking of show schedules, recommend judges/stewards for the smaller shows and in conjunction with the Council of Management for National shows and sales.

* Assist the office team with the checking of show entries.

* Conduct follow up processes post show/sale/event such as thank you letters, Surveys, Questionnaires.

* Ensure hotels/flights/accommodation etc are booked for relevant people for sales and shows, liaise with them.

* Book photographers/videographers for events

* Liaise daily with the office manager and team as required to make sure information’s is shared as necessary both ways.

* Assist the office manager with the management of the Welsh Pavilion

From time-to-time the society may ask for additional tasks to be completed as required outside of this job description as per the society’s needs.

The Ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

Strong written and oral communication skills

Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to identify and prioritise work.

Full UK Driving licence,

Be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

A reasonable knowledge of the beef industry is essential and ideally experience of the Charolais breed or other pedigree breeding would be an advantage.

IT competent (minimum expectation would be the largely unassisted use of Microsoft suite of products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Use of in-house systems can be taught.

The applicant should be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and use of social media.

Ability to work within defined budgets.
