Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook nutritious meals for the residents of the nursing home.
Maintain high standards of culinary excellence, ensuring meals meet residents' dietary requirements, preferences, and any specific dietary restrictions.
Plan menus in consultation with the management, taking into consideration seasonal availability and variety.
Ensure all food is prepared in a clean and hygienic environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Manage food stock levels, placing orders as required to ensure availability of ingredients.
Maintain accurate records of food usage, wastage, and temperature logs.
Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
Collaborate with the care home staff to accommodate any special dietary needs of individual residents.
Participate in meetings and training sessions, keeping up-to-date with best practices in nutrition and food preparation.
Maintain a positive and professional work environment, working collaboratively with the wider team.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a chef or cook in a similar environment, preferably within a nursing home or healthcare setting.
Knowledge of nutritional requirements and diets suitable for elderly individuals.
Ability to plan and prepare diverse and balanced menus.
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including food hygiene.
Excellent culinary skills, including knowledge of various cooking techniques.
Good communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules.
Relevant food and safety certifications are desirable.
