Highbury Roundhouse is a thriving non-profit, community-based organisation supporting people living and working in Islington and the surrounding area.

We serve a large cross-section of the community and focus on delivering educational and recreational activities for people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Particularly those from disadvantaged and disaffected communities, to engage in activities that will enhance their self-esteem and encourage them to participate in the community.

We are about to open our new community centre, where we will have a café. We are looking for a chef Manager to run our café and restaurant.

You will need at least 3 years’ experience in managing catering services with full knowledge of how to provide a professional catering service to members of the public. You will need to know how to provide cooked meals, sandwiches, teas, coffees and snacks for our community café known as the “Hub” in a busy newly built community centre in Highbury, soon to open.

You will be responsible for catering for events and private functions held in the community centre.

Are you the right person for us?

You will need to have NVQ qualification at level 3 or above in professional cooking and a Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene or above and strong experience in managing a Food/Health & Safety management system
Proven chef management experience in a similar post in the hospitality industry
Excellent knowledge of food health and safety regulations
Strong business acumen
Exemplary management skills
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Effective communication skills
Exceptional customer service skills
You will be required to undertake a DBS check
What will your role as a Chef Manager look like?

Work in a timely and efficient manner – maintain a professional attitude at all times
To be responsible for all aspects of food preparation, including prepping, cooking, presentation and serving of meals
Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising the catering staff
Resolve customer complaints regarding food quality and customer service
Develop new nutritious menu items based on customers' preferences and feedback, accordingly to their age
Ensure that food and beverages are prepared following high standards of hygiene within the Food Hygiene requirements
Maintain logs and maintain food safety logs and records
Ensure that meals and services are prepared timely for the nursery, lunch club, events and members of the public
Assist the assistant cook in cleaning all pot pans, cutlery and all areas used by the team
Help put out tables, chairs and other equipment for the service and clear away afterwards and that HRH equipment and furniture are cleaned and stored away where appropriate
Responsible for ordering and maintaining stock levels of provisions, including stock control and inventories
Responsible for receiving café supplies and verifying that the correct items and quantities have been received
Good understanding of P&L, ensuring that all café expenses are within budget and identifying ways to decrease operational costs
Attend staff meetings and prepare reports of trading figures
To attend and to assist in all HRH fundraising events as required by the director
Ensure that the cleaning of the kitchen is maintained to a high standard
Responsible for ensuring that the kitchens are kept up to the standard required under health and safety legislation
Work as part of a team contributing to the smooth and effective running of HRH services
Be prepared to undertake training as required
Identifying strategies to retain and attract customers
