Cook – The role:
As our Cook you will be responsible for preparing meals for the guests and staff at Gowlands. Ensure high standards of hygiene are maintained in the kitchen and dining areas. Recognise responsibility within your role for safeguarding vulnerable adults.
The kitchen at Gowlands is a communal area where guests are encouraged, where safe, to prepare drinks and snacks. Our cook should be able to interact with and assist guests under the guidance of their support worker.
In addition to this as our Cook you will be responsible for:
• Preparing the evening meal for guests and staff according to the menu
• Planning varied menus in advance incorporating specific dietary requirements and food preferences
• Ensuring there is adequate food and provisions stock levels available.
• Ensuring stock rotation is completed.
• Completing online shopping orders in line with menus.
• Adhere to infection prevention control measures to ensure kitchen and dining area meet all required hygiene standards and regulations.
• Ensuring fridge, freezer and food temperatures are taken and recorded.
• Ensuring kitchen opening and closing checks are completed.
• Ensuring fridge, oven and microwave are clean and freezer is defrosted regularly.
• Complying with all Health and Safety Guidelines in relation to food safety and working within the guidelines of Food Standards Agency.
• Participating in regular team meetings.
• Completing all relevant training courses either classroom based or through e-learning.
In order to be successful within this role you should have:
• Experience in food preparation (in a commercial or domestic setting)
• Excellent hygiene practices
• Good communication skills
• Commitment to own learning and development
It would be great if you have:
• Experience of working with individuals with a learning disability
• Understanding of special dietary requirements
