CHASSIS, BODY AND TRIM SYSTEMS FASTENER ENGINEER
This role calls for an experienced Engineer with direct responsibility for the fastener content of the body, chassis and trim systems. The successful candidate will be part of a team delivering a ground-breaking vehicle product.
Job Description:
This role requires the successful candidate to work within the vehicle engineering team to specify, design, test and review the body, chassis & trim fastener content for an exciting new vehicle. The successful candidate will have experience working within the automotive industry and the requirements placed on a vehicle during its lifetime. It will be necessary to have a demonstrated understanding of fastener calculations and experience of specifying key joints from first principles.
The goal is to deliver body, chassis & trim systems that meets or exceeds all in-use and service requirements. The role shall begin with generalised feedback to the design teams to ensure safe, reliable and robust joints can be designed from the start. As the vehicle progresses more detailed information will be needed, including tool, settings and service requirements. During prototype and early build phases a series of tests will need to be carried out to confirm the design has been successfully satisfied.
The ideal candidate would be able to define specific joint parameters through calculation and communicate these to design and other stakeholders on the vehicle. Program timing is mission-critical and you will be responsible for reporting performance against targets throughout the vehicle’s development, including interim prototype builds as well as program J1 targets.
* Define key standards to achieve vehicle-level targets e.g. coatings to meet corrosion performance
* Work with body, chassis and trim commodity teams on integration of standard fasteners performing calculations where needed e.g clamping force, inserting force
* Main point of contact and liaison with OEMs chosen fasteners supplier
* Specify requirements to design groups enabling design to be matured with excellent joint performance in-mind
* Communicate issues and roadblocks effectively though appropriate channels, following up with resolutions
* Responsible for reporting against performance targets and supporting others to do the same, determining where trade-offs might be necessary.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
* Expertise in fastener/joint calculations and testing
* Problem solving skills are vital, using an industry standard technique
* An ability to deliver under pressure with an appetite for measured success.
IT Skills
* MS Office skills essential (Office 365 preferred)
* Experience with Jira / Jama would be preferrable
Education
* Engineering degree is preferred, however demonstrated technical excellence will be considered equally

Additional information: The rate is negotiable depending on each candidate experience. Hybrid working – 3 days in the office and 2 days from home
