Food Safety Officer

Special Conditions:
DBS Disclosure satisfactory to North Warwickshire Borough Council.
The post holder will be required to be involved in the call-out procedures of the Emergency Control Centre of the Council and, in addition, the post holder has an identified role in the event of a major emergency in the Borough.
Most duties of the post can be carried out during normal working hours, but the post holder will be required to be flexible in this regard, and to work out-of-hours if required.
Overall Purpose of the Position
1 . To carry out the specialist duties of the team with the minimum of supervision and direction and in particular:
2. To carry out the inspection of commercial premises under relevant environmental health legislation and to take action where necessary to secure compliance.
3. To undertake sampling and inspection of foodstuffs.
4. To investigate infectious disease within the community.
The Duties Of The Post Include:
5. The enforcement of environmental health legislation specifically related to the Section including, food safety and health and safety; control of infectious diseases; water supplies. This includes routine inspections; investigations following complaints, incidents or intelligence; the giving of advice to businesses and public and the
provision of written warnings, service of notices, the carrying out of PACE interviews and prosecution of offenders in line with the Council's enforcement policies.
6. Keeping informed of all new legislation, Government circulars, codes of practice and other documents relevant to the work of the Section. To assist in the development of new policies and practices and modifications to existing policies and practices as required.
7. Assisting in the training of any Student Environmental Health Officer as part of his/her agreed training programme in relation to the specialist function of the Section.
8. The preparation and service of Health and Safety Improvement and Prohibition notices in the post holders own name. The preparation and service of Food Hygiene Improvement Notices and Emergency Prohibition Notices in the post holders own name.
Current or past experience in related work.
A detailed understanding of relevant legislation and the underlying concepts and principles of the specialist area.
Experience of investigation and enforcement, including the initiation of prosecutions.
Experience of monitoring equipment / regimes and / or software.
Evidence of working with groups, people, projects etc. involving meetings, planning, presentation/speaking skills, organising
Driving — Full license [E], no endorsements [D].
Evidence of written work, quality / clarity of expression, document organisation and technical content
