The Burford Recruitment Company are working in partnership with an UHNW family who reside on a large country Estate in West Oxfordshire. Our client is seeking a dynamic and passionate ‘Working Gardens Manager to lead the gardening team and deliver exciting projects on time and to budget.
You will oversee the operations of the Estate’s 14-acre private garden and 4-acre walled gardens as well as new produce garden project offsite. In order to be successful in this role, you will need to have a proven track record in garden management, plant husbandry, project delivery, and fruit and vegetable production.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Estate Gardens
* Serving as the primary point of contact within the Gardens Team.
* Engaging with the Principals to ensure successful goal achievement.
* Maintaining regular communication and engagement with the Principals to review operations, receive feedback, provide instructions, and aid in project planning and execution.
* Supervising and leading the Gardens Team to cultivate an efficient and pleasant work environment, delegating tasks to ensure the Principals’ objectives are met in a timely manner.
* Coordinating with the Principals, House Manager, and/or Family PA to plan for events and minimize operational disruptions during key times.
* Creating, communicating, and executing a maintenance program with clear task visibility for all.
* Collaborating with stakeholders to design and execute a planting and production plan for the Kitchen Garden.
* Leading, coordinating, and assisting in various practical works, including those related to the kitchen garden, lawns, herbaceous borders, pleasure grounds, shrub and tree pruning, and health monitoring.
* Conducting periodic reviews of all plant stocks and obtaining instructions on restocking requirements.
The Walled Garden
* Managing fruit trees and their surroundings to optimise productive capacity.
* Cataloguing existing stock, assessing tree health, and evaluating potential enhancements through additional or replacement planting.
* Coordinating and assisting in all necessary practical works.
* Developing and implementing a plan for fruit harvesting, storage, and juicing to meet the Family’s needs.
* Aiding in the management and utilisation of stocks to minimize waste
