The Oval, currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Kia Oval, is an international cricket ground in Kennington , in the London Borough of Lambeth , South London . The Oval has been the home ground of Surrey County Cricket Club since it was opened in 1845. It was the first ground in England to host international Test cricket in September 1880. The final Test match of the English season is traditionally played there.
In addition to cricket, The Oval has hosted several other historically significant sporting events. In 1870, it staged England 's first international football match, versus Scotland . It hosted the first FA Cup final in 1872 , as well as those between 1874 and 1892 . In 1876, it held both the England v Wales and England v Scotland rugby international matches, and in 1877, rugby's first Varsity match . It also hosted the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
Nature and Scope:
A high profile specialist and prestigious opportunity, for a dynamic, senior and inspirational hospitality professional, experienced in F&B delivery and a real 'people person' and 'foodie', with rounded leadership skills and a mantra to jump the curve and innovate F&B products to new heights.
Responsible for developing and delivering exceptional food and guest experience, both for specified match days and high-profile events such as The Ashes and the ICC World Test Championship, and also year round, day to day non match day trading. Critical to the success and reputation of the F&B offering, is the leadership, selection and engagement of a well-trained team, both fixed and seasonal.
You will work closely with both Surrey County Cricket Club and Levy UK within a joint venture partnership to qualify requirements, then deliver the catering strategy. As such, you will continually evolve both the catering and guest experience product, such that OEL at The Kia Oval is renowned for food and hospitality excellence as befits a famous iconic sporting venue. This is not a role for someone who wants to preserve the status quo, or simply copy ideas from elsewhere, but if you have the passion for food and service underpinned by evidence of delivery of fresh ideals and operational excellence then you will shine and so will the venue.
The remit of this role currently includes over £5M match day retail sales, £10M match day hospitality product and £7M C&E sales. Overall there is in excess of 4,000 covers in hospitality on major match days across restaurants, boxes, sponsors, OEL guests and members. There is a fixed team of circa 25 heads, supported on match days by up to 120 chefs and 1000 front line operational team members.
