General Manager – Food Retail

Our client is an independent butchers, grocers and deli located in multi-site locations around the Brackley area. They are passionate about promoting locally produced food to all of their customers, pubs, restaurants and schools. It’s one of the reasons they were voted the UK’s National Butchers Champion by the Countryside Alliance.
Due to the ongoing growth of the business, they are currently recruiting a *** General Manager *** to work alongside the two company directors. This is a hands-on role operating across three sites and multiple departments.
Responsibilities include:
* Overseeing the daily business operations.
* Continuously challenge operational processes and procedures, identify inefficiencies, and implement change.
* Ensure that all board/management meeting actions are implemented in a timely manner.
* Work with the finance manager to identify and implement cost saving initiatives.
* Supporting a team of managers across multiple departments to ensure that business plan targets are achieved monthly.
* Supporting the managers with recruitment.
* Being a true brand ambassador and inspiring the team to live by the company’s values and passion
* Oversee the companies buying function and stock control.
* Act as the company liaison with all butchery suppliers, building long term relationships and ensuring the highest quality standards.
* Oversee and implement the company’s marketing strategy including the website, social media, in store advertising, seasonal marketing campaigns and ensuring that the companies distinctive USP’s are clearly communicated.
* Utilising business acumen and retail knowledge to proactively drive store revenue and customer base, develop the wholesale business, home deliveries, online sales and mail order.
* Act as the company’s main point of contact with the QC consultant.
* Police the day-to-day compliance of all staff with the companies HACCP policy, procedures, daily checks, deep cleans and health and safety.
* Ultimate responsibility for all quality control requirements procedures and compliance, allergens, ingredient declarations, till systems and the regular completion of sampling and the checkout system.
* Keeping up to date on legislative changes and implementation across the business.
* Attend the monthly board and management meetings.
The General Manager is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company. They are also responsible for driving sales and marketing along with quality control and health and safety.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate extensive people management skill, with an established track record of developing and nurturing talent to create a successful and positive team able to deliver the sales and service level targets.
Our client is offering a salary up to £35,000 per annum. Working hours are 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday – with flexibility to work Saturdays as required by the role which will be managed by the incumbent). Applicants must have their own transport to travel across sites in a 10-mile radius of Brackley.
