Hardware Electronics Engineer – Automotive, West Midlands, £40,000 – £45,000 Circa + benefits
Hardware Electronics Engineer responsibilities:
Providing realistic estimates of time and budgets to complete designated activities;
Providing accurate and timely information relating to the progress of assigned tasks and activities, problem areas, project concerns, recovery actions etc;
Liaising with Customer Representatives and other members of the Project Team to agree product hardware requirements, and to resolve specification deficiencies;
Liaising with internal and external Test Facilities to plan and support product design validation activities;
Liaising with internal and external Manufacturing Facilities to support product manufacture;
Assisting other members of the Project Team to understand the hardware design;
Promoting the orderly progression of hardware integration by ensuring assigned activities are completed to the schedule agreed with the Project Team;
Generating work plans for Electronic Technicians allocated to the Project;
Liaising with the Project Manager and other members of the Project Team to establish hardware feature content and requirements for internal and customer releases;
Take a primary role in the hardware design and development process including: hardware requirements specification and analysis, hardware system design, hardware functional design, hardware specification, participation in peer and formal reviews, preparation of test plans, specification and procurement of test equipment, coordinating and supporting the manufacture and test of prototypes;
Ensure that hardware development work is conducted in accordance with Company policies and procedures, and that such work meets relevant project, customer and Company quality and safety standards;
Ensure all supporting documentation relating to a hardware release is complete and accurate (including but not limited to: requirements documents, design documents, design review reports, test plans & results, user documentation) and is held according to the Company’s policies;
Ensure the relevant hardware lifecycle is followed for assigned engineering activities;
Identify areas for improvement including tools, techniques and processes;
Ensure that any safety concerns identified are recorded in the project hazard log and are brought to the attention of the Chief Engineer
Ensure that any problems encountered during the hardware design and development process which might affect the performance or quality of the final product are brought to the immediate attention of the Project Manager and Chief Engineer Requirements:
Hardware Electronics Engineer requirements:
Degree-qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline (Electrical and Electronic Engineering);
Experience of small to medium volume manufacturing and assembly techniques appropriate to rotating electrical machines;
Experience in the use of model-based development tools including Matlab, Simulink;
Familiarity with external motor control systems including power electronics, control methods and position sensor requirements would be advantageous;
Knowledge of PCB layout / design software such as Altium
Good test and analysis skills;
Good written and verbal communication skills;
Proficiency with standard office tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc;
A team player with the additional ability to work alone unsupervised;
Highly-motivated and capable of working on concurrent activities;
Willingness to travel within the UK and world wide
