As a H&S Advisor you will be providing health and safety competent advice to all parts of the business including Operations, Facilities, Engineering & Construction, ensuring personnel and contractors operate safely, comply with legal requirements and follow the health and safety policies and procedures set by the organisation.
Proactively advise functional areas of the business on all aspects of health and safety, including compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practice, liaising with enforcing authorities and professional groups to ensure adherence.
Oversee the grading and management of hazards identified by employees or Contractors.
Manage investigations to ensure effective root cause analysis and effective implementation of preventative and corrective actions is conducted, reporting statistical information as required.
Lead and undertake relevant inspections, site and assurance visits, focusing on high and medium risk sites.
Write reports for delivery to the H&S Manager of the relevant business area.
Monitor performance against the Safety, Health, and Wellbeing objectives, standards, processes, and procedures.
Assist in the review and agreement of safe systems of work and risk assessments where there is a significant risk to safety and environment.
Provide assurance reviews of critical incidents, as determined by HSSW Director or Health & Safety Manager. Would require evidence-based report writing of findings together with recommendations for delivery to Director level.
Increase health and safety competence of managers and staff in the business through coaching and guidance, highlighting training opportunities to ensure staff remain current and competent wrt health and safety practices.
Where required discharge the duties of a CDM advisor, including;
Providing technical guidance to site based and/or office-based staff and less experienced colleagues.
Attend design/progress meetings and undertake site audits/inspections during construction works.
Provide of technical advice on chemical storage/use, including toxic gas.
Provide of technical advice relating to COMAH regulations.
Provide general security and wellbeing advice and enable liaison between HSSW Security and Wellbeing teams and operational staff where appropriate.

As a H&S Advisor, you will have the following experience
You will have excellent communication skills particularly regarding interviewing and written reports. You will have the ability to coach and mentor other employees and strong leadership skills to drive business changes. You will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and be confident under pressure.
In depth knowledge of HSE legislation, best practice and its practical application.
Experience in an advisory capacity on health & Safety matters, preferably in a utility, facilities, construction or critical national infrastructure environment, ideally with some process safety experience.
Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma / NEBOSH Certificate level or Level 6 equivalent
Must possess a full UK driving licence.
