We are looking for an experienced Head of Catering to join us on a fixed term contract covering adoption leave.

Location: Based at one of our wetland sites with the opportunity for hybrid working
Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday
Salary: £44,518 per annum
Contract: Adoption Cover – 12 months fixed term contract

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Commercial you will drive & deliver the food and drink strategy for WWT across our cafés, restaurants, and kiosks.

You are responsible for developing and delivering commercial, operationally-sound menus that our visitors will love. We are looking for a dedicated and reliable individual who loves food just as much as we do!

You’ll be an experienced operator, one that can drive great food and service in liaison with our site teams but also able to drive strong commercial performance, supporting our teams in delivering funds to enable our national and internationally important conservation work to go on.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for candidates who are available to join us at the beginning of March.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

– Analysis of financial and sales data, producing reports and recognising trends across our catering operation that identify success and areas to address.

– Working with our sites to ensure that they deliver all legislative requirements, financial targets and standards through professional advice, guidance, and coaching.

– Review of existing menu performance and design and launch seasonal menus to meet customer expectation across our site restaurants, cafes, and kiosks.

– Support our site teams with evaluation of existing operations and identifying opportunities to improve their catering operations.

– Management of national purchasing agreements, reporting on purchasing levels, product specification and centre volumes.

A key part of the role will involve travelling between our centres from your base to ensure that all catering outlets are delivering food and customer service to the agreed standards, meeting legislative requirements, and operating in accordance with WWT expectations.

About You

To join us as our Interim Head of Catering you’ll need:

– Demonstrable experience of a management role in a catering division

– Effective financial management skills and resource planning; able to demonstrate delivering improvement in financial results

– The ability to build relationships and provide technical advice and support to teams that you do not directly manage

– A motivating and positive approach which inspires people to deliver change

For this role we can offer flexibility around working from home. It is expected the role will need to work from their base location 1 day a week. Travel will also be a necessary part of this role to visit our sites across the UK and attend meetings as required. A current driving licence is essential as is a willingness to travel regularly to other WWT locations, staying away from home as and when required.
