WE'RE HIRING FOR a commis chef (junior chef) to work in the Students Union at Hull University.

DUTIES

* To assist in the preparation and delivery of food offer in HUSU facilities.

* Ensure all stock is maintained in an appropriate manner to facilitate rotation, internal audits and assist in food stocks on a weekly basis.

* Ensure that controls are maintained to maximise profits and efficiency and minimise wastage.

* To accept and check off deliveries.

* Ensure that all the kitchen equipment is maintained, cleaned and run efficiently.

* Prepare the kitchen for preparation and service of meals ensuring that all utensils, crockery, cutlery etc. are ready for use.

* Prepare and present food to company specifications maintaining portion and quality control.

* Ensure the smooth and constant availability of food during hours of service.

* To assist the Catering Manager in the maintenance and ordering of sufficient stocks and ensure all stocks used are on a rotational basis.

* Ensure all health and safety and hygiene legislation procedures are implemented, maintained and complied with.

* To cover different shifts to ensure the consistency and high quality of food production and operation.

* Adhere to all company standards of uniform, policies and procedures and to undertake such other additional duties as may be required from time to time within the overall scope of the role, as directed by the Catering Manager or General Manager.

* To work in other departments of HUU as required in line with the demands of the business.

WORKING HOURS

Shifts as per business requirement – managers to confirm on a weekly basis – could be 0 up to full time.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION CORE COMPETENCIES

Essential:

* Food Hygiene Level 2 or above or equivalent

* Food Safety

* SOP (Standard Operating Procedures)

* Fire Safety

* Team work

* Working in a Student Union or similar environment (customer focused – bar and restaurant)

* Able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills

* Ability to work well in a team as well as on own initiative

* Demonstrate good communication skills

* Works well under pressure

* Good organisational skills

* Customer focused and performance driven

Desirable but not essential:

* HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)

* Knowledge of health and safety

* Shift work

* Manual Handling Cert

* COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
