Conventional Machinist
Reporting to:
Production Controller
Job purpose:
To set and operate a range of conventional machines to produce parts and tooling
Main duties and responsibilities:
• Read and understand production orders
• read and understand Technical/Engineering drawings and related documentation such as Condition of Supply (COS) and engineering change note (ECN)
• set and operate conventional mills
• set and operate conventional lathes
• adjust machining parameters to maintain optimum performance
• manufacture tooling and fixtures to aid machining
• first off inspection and inspection of jigs/fixtures
• deburring machined components
• maintaining consumable tooling
• operator maintenance
• maintain good 5S and housekeeping
• assist production and engineering with continuous improvement activities
Working period:
37.5hrs/week
Shift Patterns:
• 7.00am to 3.00pm
Note: all shifts include a ½ hour unpaid daily lunch break
Overtime is not guaranteed but if worked is paid time and a third for week days, time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays.
Prerequisites:
• this position requires at least five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment; particularly setting and operating CNC machinery
• use of mechanical inspection equipment
• deburring and finishing components
• appreciation of Lean Principles and 5S methodology
• computer literate especially in Windows based products
• ability to work without detailed direction as well as working within a team
• well organized and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• willing to work required hours to complete the job
• ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels
