JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Nursery Chef for ourBrixton Nurseryto work (8-5pm).LEYF is passionate about making sure our children are as safe, fit, and healthy as possible. Critical to this is ensuring children eat delicious and nutritious food every day, and develop healthy eating habits for life. We know that the nursery chef is critical to this, so we invest heavily in our nursery chefs and they are integral to the nursery team.

Our Early Years Chef role includes: 

Food preparation and kitchen management:Planning and preparing nutritionally well-balanced meals for children at the nursery, always following the LEYF policies and procedures including ‘Healthy Eating’ and ‘Allergy’.
Training and development:Actively participating in LEYF’s pioneeringEarly Years Chef Academy, a CACHE Level 3 endorsed award. This course costs £1000 for externals but is free for LEYF chefs. 
Promote healthy eating:Supporting the nursery’s approach to healthy eating, including running cooking and food-related activities with children, and, after taking part in our Early Years Chef Academy, supporting staff and parents around healthy child nutrition.
Hygiene, H&S, and compliance:Undertaking general housekeeping duties of the nursery and assisting in maintaining a hygienic, safe and healthy environment.

Teamwork:Contributing to the wider LEYF chef community by sharing ideas for menus, recipes, food-related activities with children.
Safeguarding:Protecting and promoting the safeguarding and welfare of the children

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A positiveattitude! Excited to work ina nurserypreparing healthy and delicious food for children andrunning food-related activities with them.

Food Hygiene level 2 or equivalent, or be willing to do the course in the first week of work (paid for by LEYF)
Good hygiene practices
Ability to assess all stages of the food preparation process in accordance with HACCP
Knowledge ofallergies andchildren’s dietary requirements
Working effectively as part of a team

Work within the budget and keep neat and accurate records of purchases and money spent
Experience of preparing/cooking food in a childcare setting isdesirable but not essential
