Nursery Cook / Nursery Chef at a Children's Day Nursery and Preschool

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm

Salary: £25,000-£28,000pa (depending on experience)

Main purpose of the role:

To be responsible for the management of the nursery kitchen, food policies, organising, preparing, and serving nursery meals in accordance with the nursery menus and individual dietary requirements. To be a good role model to the children.

Key Responsibilities

·Planning, preparation and serving of food to provide meals in accordance with the nurseries menus and food policies

·Catering for all individual dietary requirements in line with parental guidance

·Maintaining the highest standards of Health and Safety apply to children, colleagues, parents and visitors, maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure environment

·Ensure hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen is of the highest standard in accordance with Environmental Health requirements and legislation

·Maintain necessary kitchen procedures and records in accordance with the nurseries policies and processes

·To undertake future and refresher training as appropriate

·Responsible for ordering, control, storage and rotation of kitchen stock, minimising and recording all wastage.

·Keep accurate records of supplies and order replacements as needed within the nursery budget requirements

·Order food in line with the nurseries policies and within specified budget

·To contribute to the team effort of the nursery and to attend staff meetings and social events as and when required

·Liaise with the nursery Manager on the ordering of necessary kitchen equipment

·To undertake any other reasonable catering duties as requested by the Nursery Manager

This post requires a satisfactory, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on appointment and every three years thereafter.

The Ideal candidate will:

– Hold a minimum L2 Food Hygiene certificate

– Have previous experience of working within a commercial kitchen

– Have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the current legislations in Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Food Standards Agency

– Previous experience of ordering and managing food budget resourcefully
