Are you a technically capable ICT Engineer, or a Project Engineer that enjoys not only the challenge of supporting and maintaining, but designing for the future in a highly secure environment? Do you revel in situations that require an engineer to be the focal point for others? Are looking to be a specialist, but also wear other ‘hats’, to help other members of the team in ensuring a fully functional infrastructure. Do you have the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively, but also lead others to solutions?

We are looking for a Principal ICT Engineer that will bring a methodical and dedicated approach to R&D and problem solving, that is able to act quickly in assessing a situation or requirements. We want you to relish in the provision of a first-class service to our customers and be able to communicate at all levels to ensure clear understanding and pathway to success of project completion. Either working alone or part of the team, we want you to come up with solutions that will ensure business continuity, and that can add substance to new or on-going projects or products.

Key Areas of the role:

Support various stakeholders in the understanding and use of the network ICT systems.

Evaluate and supply analysis papers in support of solutions to the ICT roadmap, and future expansion;

Lead and deliver to time, documentation in support of planning, design and implementation of software and hardware;

Provide 3rd line support as needed for the maintenance of the ICT and its associated hardware/software;

Manage and drive the deployment of various hardware and operating systems, configuring the system, and producing process documentation for others to follow;

Actively support other business teams with their specific operational requirements, acting as a consultant when required;

Maintain and create additional documentation and records in support of current systems;

Act as a mentor in areas of specialist knowledge, in support of other team members, and junior support engineers;

Manage and ‘own’ any service disruptions, within agreed service level agreements, identifying and resolving any issues;

Advise and implement the management and monitoring of the security of systems, including data and controlling of access rights, with the support of the customer;

Capture and analyse customer requirements, providing detailed analysis and recommendations;

Research, design, development and testing of prospective products and software, as allocated by the line manager;

Take lead and drive to completion, projects and tasks assigned by Team Leader;

Be a recognised specialist in at least one technical subject matter area;

The invaluable experience you already have, will help us achieve more. We are expecting that you’ve done this role, or something very similar before. This means you will know how to do it whilst spinning multiple plates, and therefore we would expect a good slice of the following:

Essential Experience:

* Expert knowledge of the Installation, configuration, management and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows products (10, Server 2008 R2 to Server 2019);

* Working knowledge of Enterprise Data Centre and Storage systems, specifically HPe Synergy and 3PAR;

* High level of experience with the Installation, configuration, management and troubleshooting of the VMware product set (ESXi, vSphere and Workstation);

* Understanding or working experience of desktop virtualisation presentation;

* Understanding of ITIL Project Management artefacts, process, procedures, reporting and risk management;

* To take the lead in actively mentoring of others;

* Able to retain objectivity with proper understanding, of a problem or situation when working under project pressures, and whilst delivering to time and budget;

* Make decisive and clear decisions, both from analysis and when resolving issues and problems, directing others to complete and solve complex solutions;

* High level of competency of patching systems, via firmware and software upgrades and patch release;

* Proven experience of system monitoring and endpoint protection;

* Experience of UNIX and/or Linux operating systems and configuration;

* Understanding of Project Management artefacts, process, procedures, reporting and risk management;

To really hit the ground running in this role, the right candidate will have a deeper understanding of our business and where we strive to be the best, meaning that the following would be highly desirable above the essential requirements:

Desired Experience:

Sound knowledge of JSP440 and JSP604;

Understanding of network and communication protocols, based around Cisco and HPe;

Working knowledge or experience of deployment methods, specifically around SCCM;

Sound experience of system monitoring and deployment of End-Point-Protection (EPP) using SolarWinds;

Experience of implementing, config and maintaining LINUX servers (Redhat, Kubernetes);

Experience of database software such as MS SQL, MySQL, PostSQL server, Oracle;

Understanding of configuring and administering Microsoft HPC;

Experience of implementing and administration of High Availability (HA), clustering and load balancing technologies.

* The role is based in Wiltshire, but may involve occasional travel both within and outside of UK;

* Understanding of MoD Procurement process for Hardware, Licensing and Software;

* You must be eligible to work and live in the UK;

* Due to the highly secure nature of the role, you must be willing to undergo and maintain appropriate UK government DV security clearance.
