Salary :

Purpose:

To provide a customer-facing, technical-focused team covering all elements that define an item of supply including Acquisition Safety Management and Product Quality Assurance.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Act as Food technical expert across the Defence Food Team.

Ensure that Defence Food Team is aware of the legislative requirements for food safety, legality and quality encompassing acquisition, storage and distribution

Ensure the Quality Management System, Specifications for Operational Ration Packs, Defence Food Quality Standards, SOPs, policies and associated documentation are regularly reviewed (at least annually) and updated where necessary.

Carry out 2nd party audits on the prime contractors and inspections on sub-contractors as required to verify compliance with contractual and legislative requirements.

Actively manage Food Safety and Quality complaints and incidents for all contracts, including Recalls/Withdrawals.

Liaise with the Institute of Naval Medicine, CMO and MOD policy makers on matters of nutrition relating to all contracts.

To lead on appraisal and management of user requirements, safety data sheets, certification, shelf-life extensions, safety cases/artefacts and specifications relevant to food, dog food, non-food ORP components and ration heaters. Keep updated on all technical aspects relating to these contracts.

Maintain equipment and consumable technical product details within Msys.PDM.HSIS.CSIS.

Lead on technical support to Tender Activity across the programme as appropriate and manage Food Technologist input to this process.

To manage Food Technologist input into the introduction of new food items and changes to food items.

Ensure products procured are safe, legal and compliant to Defence Food Quality Standards.

Provide support to strategic supplier negotiations and tender activities across the programme as appropriate and contribute to regular contractor reviews.

Aid in the development of the Food Category Strategy and executing the plans to meet the Business Objectives.

Attend relevant industry meetings and exhibitions and maintain professional memberships to maintain and enhance Food Quality Assurance knowledge.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Experience in managing a small team.

Qualified to HNC or equivalent in a Food Science discipline.

Suitably qualified in food safety auditing in particular Lead auditor (min 40 hours). Experience in 2nd party audits desirable.

Food manufacturing HACCP understanding and training to Level 3 required as a minimum.

Prior Food Quality Assurance experience (min 5 years).

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, time management and decision-making skills.

Key competencies in order of priority are Analytical Abilities/Commercial Awareness; Interpersonal and Influencing/Communication; Decision Making/Exercising Judgement; Self-Management; Planning & Organising

Proficient Computer Skills – highly experienced in using databases / spreadsheets and comfortable with producing Presentations where data is communicated to a variety of audiences.

Proficiency in best practice for defect management, auditing and customer management.

A working knowledge of a supply chain end-to-end process is desirable.

Tender and Contract management experience is desirable.

We are currently operating on a hybrid working basis, there will however be a period of time at the start of your employment spent fully working in our office, familiarising yourself with our systems and processes.
