Quality Manager – Nutritional Supplement Company

Quality Manager position for a Nutritional Supplement company in Luton, LU3. Salary: £40-45k. Hours: 8am – 4pm – Mon to Fri. Office based. Must be flexibility to travel (to supplier audits which could possibly be overseas).

Contract manufacturer of nutritional Food Supplements for the UK and overseas markets. Experienced but compact company looking for a Quality Manager to head our quality department (Quality and Regulatory) to implement a quality system with an initial target of becoming ISO 22000 compliant in 2024 and BRC Global Standard compliant in 2025.
You will be an experienced manager of people with hands-on experience of QMS management in a food environment and some regulatory knowledge and an ambition to help our company achieve success through your actions.
Be a strong manager of people.
Experience in QMS management in a food manufacturing environment.
Good experience of HACCP, ISO 22000, BRC, including audit experience.
Food Hygiene and HACCP Level 3
A strong track record of leading audits, both for customers and internally
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to liaise with other managers in the business.
As QA Manager, your main responsibilities will be to:
Quality Management System
* Management of QA/QC and Regulatory staff.
* Managing the QMS to ensure full compliance to the guidelines and directives required for the company to trade.
* Managing the QMS to ensure compliance with all aspects of Food law.
* Ensure full compliance to the guidelines & directives required for the company to trade.
* Lead and manage internal and external audits and attain high standards.
* Work to improve business working practices and procedures.
* Management of all controlled documentation- procedures, forms and records.
* Writing, approval and review of controlled documentation.
* Proposal and implementation of processes and documentation to improve compliance and efficiency.
* Management, review and close out of change controls, deviations, complaints. Appropriate actions implemented. Trend analysis to ensure additional actions are taken as required.
* Maintaining appropriate policies for Quality, Validation, Environment etc.
* Ensuring an effective and efficient way of managing documentation is maintained for easy access for all.
Supplier Management
-Approval of all suppliers to the company.
-Liaison with suppliers regarding quality related issues.
-Ensure technical agreements are in place and maintained when required.
Release Process
Review of batch documents and release of food supplement batches, including physical release.
Management of QC staff to ensure prompt and appropriate QC release of raw materials and finished products.
Maintenance of retained samples.
Equipment and Environment
Ensuring facilities and environment is in line with the appropriate directives and guidelines for products being manufactured for the appropriate grade of facility.
Maintaining calibration and validation schedule, including temperature mapping.
Preparation of validation protocols as appropriate. Management of validation programmes.
Regular walkabouts of facilities making recommendations to ensure continued compliance.
Management of pest control contracts and any related issues.
Customer Related
Management of the complaints process.
Support / hosting customer audits and preparing appropriate responses to feedback.
Liaison with customers for product quality queries as appropriate.
Regulatory
Ensuring timely completion of documents to customer requirements.
Lead audits from customers and third parties.
Training
Management of the SOP training matrix for all staff.
Maintaining the training SOP to enable supervisors and managers in other departments to manage their staff training in an appropriate and effective manner.
Ensuring an effective and efficient way of managing documentation is maintained for easy access for all.
Miscellaneous
Member of the Health and Safety committee, attending meetings, offering feedback, assisting with risk assessments as required, and any other related duties.
Correctly and accurately using the company's IT systems.
Any other work reasonably required by the Directors of the business.
Authority and Discretion
-Management of QA, QC staff.
-Authority to release or quarantine materials or finished products
-Authority/Discretion to reject and quarantine batches in line with SOPs.
-Authority to issue and approve SOPs.
To be considered for the role of QA Manager, you MUST be able to demonstrate:
* Being a strong manager of people
* Experience in QMS management in a food manufacturing environment.
* Good experience of HACCP, ISO 22000, BRC, including audit experience.
* Food Hygiene and HACCP Level 3
* A strong track record of leading major audits, both for customers and internally
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to liaise with other managers in the business.
* Ideally but not essentially you should be educated to degree level, ideally in a science-based subject.
* Must haves:
* Be a strong manager of people
* Experience in QMS management in a food manufacturing environment
* Good experience of HACCP/ ISO 22000/ BRC including audit experience
* Food Hygiene and HACCP Level 3
* A strong track record of leading audits both for customers and internally
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to liaise with other managers in the business
