A Social Media Assistant is required for a further education provider based in Southend, Essex. This role will be to support the Communications Manager in building and maintaining the reputation of the college through social media and press relations. The role will also involve promoting the organisation to key stakeholders, employers, students, and potential learners.

About the role of Social Media Assistant:

Key responsibilities:

* Producing lively, interesting copy for social media, press releases and website articles.
* Planning and delivering PR campaigns.
* Identifying publicity opportunities to share via online platforms.
* Organising photo and video sessions, social media scheduling and liaising with our graphic design team.
* Lead in the implementation of an effective social media strategy.
* Create content and schedule posts across all online social platforms.
* Assist on the production of articles and features for online and print media.
* Assist with the running and implementation of digital internal communication messages.
* Develop professional relationships with the media and ensure that appropriate communication is maintained.
* Liaise effectively with college staff at all levels in identifying stories.
* Produce content for regular e-newsletters, for internal and external distribution, using college templates.
* Produce lively copy for the college website, using the content management system.
* Attend conferences and meetings as may be required from time to time at the college or elsewhere and undertake appropriate staff development.
* Assist with the promotion, supervision, management and administration of such college activities and events as may be required from time to time
* Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of Marketing and Communications or by the line manager

What you need to apply for the role of Social Media Assistant:

* A proven track record of delivering effective communications through social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Snapchat.
* Experience of building relationships with the media and journalists.
* Possess excellent copywriting skills and an eye for sub-editing text to house style and a natural instinct for a good story.
* Be a confident, motivated and committed individual with a passion for social media.
* Have strong organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
* Qualified to A Level standard where possible in Maths and English.
* A good understanding of the PR function and media liaison.
* Excellent understanding of social media strategy.
* Knowledge of website content management systems and practices.
* Knowledge of the local and national media.
* Experience of liaising effectively with the media
* Excellent writing and editing skills.
* Video production skills.
* Photography skills.
* Ability to plan, implement and measure campaigns.
* Excellent team working skills.
* Excellent IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office packages.
* High level organisation and presentation skills.
* Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive issues.
* Ability and commitment to act in a professional manner
* The ability to work to tight deadlines.
* Confidence and ability to influence national media.
* A commitment to personal professional development.
* Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
