Our Organisation
Based in the heart of Bury, we are the East Lancashire Railway (ELR), a lovingly restored heritage railway which journeys for twelve miles through picturesque scenery from Heywood in the East to Rawtenstall in the North.
To support the Railway and to enhance our visitor experience, we own and run two pubs, The Trackside located at Bury Bolton Street Station and Buffer Stops in Rawtenstall. You’ll join our team at an exciting time for growth following significant investment into The Trackside pub, where you’ll be based, driving the development of our food offering, and helping keep this vital spark of British Heritage alight.

The Role – Sous Chef / Second Chef
Working alongside the Head Chef you’ll play a key role in helping to deliver and develop the food offering at The Trackside. You’ll help manage daily kitchen activities, including overseeing the kitchen team, ensuring highest food quality standards and freshness, and monitoring / managing food ordering and stocking. Your duties will also include:
* Taking responsibility for maintaining good communication in the kitchen and achieving excellent guest service
* Assisting with menu creation
* Recruiting, supporting, and training colleagues
* Leading the kitchen team in the Head Chef’s absence
Our Requirements – Sous Chef / Second Chef
* Experience gained as a Sous Chef, or as a Chef de Partie with the ability and enthusiasm to progress
* Ability to lead a team, with desire to develop skills / career
* Excellent communication skills, with a passion for customer service and a lead-by-example team player approach
The Package
* Permanent contract
* A pay rate in the region of £9.50 to £10.40 per hour, with the level depending on experience
* Flexibility available with working hours, with option to work either full time or part time hours on a rota between pub opening hours, working weekends and bank holidays as required

Current pub opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 3pm. We are planning development and expanding our hours, so you will need to be flexible with days and hours worked.
